Job Summary
The Petrophysicist will be tasked with providing detailed petrophysical assessments for Continental's asset appraisal, exploration, and development. The successful candidate will be expected to implement modern petrophysical workflows in conventional and unconventional reservoirs. The candidate should be highly skilled in data acquisition, data analytics, tool theory, and core analysis theory. The primary function of this position is field or basin-wide petrophysical assessments to support comprehensive exploration efforts. To that end, the candidate will work closely with a multi-disciplinary team of geologists, engineers, landmen and others to arrive at asset level decisions that generate value for Continental. This position will be expected to present to upper management regularly.
Serves as a resource within functional area. Guides others in resolving complex issues; may lead functional teams or projects. Advanced knowledge of fundamental theories, principles, and practices in specialization. Solves complex problems without precedent and/or structure; takes a broad perspective to identify solutions. Works independently, with guidance in complex situations.
Duties and Responsibilities



  • Expert level understanding and ability to plan or design


  • Open Hole, Cased Hole, LWD/MWD programs


  • Core analysis methods including SCAL


  • Log Evaluation


  • Log data acquisition, normalization, editing and interpretation


  • Log curve forward modeling


  • NMR data processing and analysis


  • Dipole data processing/analysis - and rock mechanics interpretation


  • Image log processing and analysis


  • Evaluations with large basin-wide studies


  • QA/QC of log data


  • Core data analysis


  • Understanding of standard core analysis protocols


  • Capillary pressure modeling


  • Permeability modeling


  • XRD/XRF acquisition


  • Core rock mechanics


  • Presenting to Executive Management on a regular basis


  • Personal commitment to inclusion and diversity


  • Other duties as assigned.


    Skills and Competencies


    • Proficient in log and core theory applications


    • Computer skills


    • Ability to write and understand code in any of the following


    • PYTHON


    • C++ C#


    • VBA


    • Experience working in Integrated Petrophysics (IP)


    • Spotfire analytics experience


    • Arc GIS or related mapping software


    • Strong communication skills, both written and oral


    • Exceptional interpersonal skills


    • Ability to work with a multi-disciplinary team to evaluate prospects or A&D deals


    • Ability to effectively prioritize multiple projects and focus attention on most critical aspects of each project to drive timely decisions


    • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills

      Required Qualifications


      • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Geophysics, or related field of study


      • Minimum of five (5) years of recent experience working as a Petrophysicist


      • Minimum of three (3) years of experience doing large basin-wide studies


      • Prior US Onshore and unconventional experience


      • Excellent knowledge of open and cased hole logging tool types, function, and application


      • An acceptable pre-employment background and drug test.


        Preferred Qualifications


        • Previous public technical presentations at SPWLA, SPE, AAPG, SEG or related forums


        • Geographix experience, especially GVerse Petrophysics


          Physical Requirements and Working Conditions


          • Requires prolonged sitting, some bending and stooping.


          • Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.


          • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and calculator.
