Will administer prescribed basic respiratory therapeutic services
across all SAH campuses.--Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate thorough knowledge of function and application of
all medical equipment utilized. Assist in maintenance of medical
equipment, and in the evaluation and selection of new
devices/techniques. Ensure legibility of all handwritten
documentation. Maintain Departmental records, i.e.,
HBOC/Information System, shift reports, Patient Kardexs. Maintain
accurate patient records for all therapies rendered. Input patient
charges for applicable procedures.
- Well-versed regarding function, application,
indication/contraindications for use, troubleshooting, maintaining
and monitoring of all oxygen administration devices and patient
requiring such. Consult with Nursing/Medical staff as to techniques
to improve oxygenation status of patient. Execution of rounds
procedure to include titration protocols, all applicable
documentation, equipment processing and troubleshooting.
- Ensure safety and security of medication administration through
use of PYXIS and pharmacy oversight/review processes. Manifest
specific knowledge of all types of aerosolized cardiopulmonary
drugs to include actions, receptor sites, dosage,
indication/contraindications and associated hazards. Familiar with
and able to educate patient in use of alternative medication
delivery such as Metered Dose Inhalers (MDI) and Dry Powder
Inhalers (DPI). Demonstrate familiarity with drugs infused to
maintain hemodynamic stability to the critically ill. Readily
identify and respond to adverse effects associated with therapy,
medication administration, and/or patient status.
- Evaluate and assess patients receiving intermittent as well as
continuous therapy. Recognize disease states/medical problems
(carbon dioxide retention, pulmonary edema, pneumothorax,
atelectasis, acidosis, etc.). Notify physician(s), recommend
appropriate adjustments to prescribed regimens. Receive and
document verbal orders from physician related to respiratory
therapy modalities. Participate in interdisciplinary care planning
specific to respiratory related focuses and interventions.
- Institute and maintain mechanical ventilation invasively for
continuous use and monitor patients requiring such; correctly
perform parameter adjustments; understand and apply all currently
used modalities of ventilation and recommend to physician
management options individualized to each patient. Performs
detailed and accurate assessment of patient requiring mechanical
ventilation and documents same each shift. Transport and support
patients requiring mechanical ventilation to ancillary departments
for special procedures.
- Assess patient readiness to wean in accordance with department
protocol and patient condition. "Wean" patient from mechanical
ventilation and be able to accurately assess tolerance. Recommend

overall function of this position.Minimum Qualifications:
- Provisional Respiratory Care Practitioner (PRCP) licensure or
letter of acknowledgment of receipt of application for a license as
a Provisional Respiratory Care Practitioner by the Oklahoma State
Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision.
- Student in an accredited respiratory therapy program. Must
provide letter from school with projected graduation date.
- Current CPR (Healthcare Provider).Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred.Physical
Employees in this position are, or can be, required to possess the
following physical capabilities:
- Lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling up to 100 lbs.
- Stooping, kneeling and/or crouching daily
- Standing or walking more than 5 hour a day
- Running to respond to patient emergencies.
- Reaching, grasping, fingering, and/or feeling more than 5 hours
- Visual acuity in order to correctly distinguish skin tone
variations, evidence of IV infiltration, infection; able to read
telemetry, blood pressure gauges, etc.
- Audio acuity in order to correctly distinguish various body
sounds (i.e., respirations, heart tones, bowel sounds).
- Audio acuity to discern sounds made by various types of
machinery or equipment that would indicate dangerous or improper
