Nurse-Inpatient Mental Health - Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

This is an Open Continuous announcement until December 30, 2022. Qualified applicants will be considered and referred as vacancies become available.

There is a large outpatient psychiatric population, an inpatient behavioral health unit and geriatric-psychiatric unit. The inpatient psychiatry unit is a 25 bed unit specializing in the care of acute mentally ill patients. The major diagnoses consist of major depressive disorders, PTSD, anxiety disorders, alcohol and substance abuse. There are provisions available for female veterans. Psychiatrists, residents, nurses, and social workers make up the treatment teams. Nursing staff facilitates therapeutic groups on this unit.

The registered nurse provides care and counseling of persons in the promotion and maintenance of health and prevention of illness and injury based upon the nursing process which includes systematic data gathering, assessment, appropriate nursing judgment, and evaluation of human responses to actual or potential health problems through such services as case finding, health teaching, health counseling;

  • Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates care based on age-specific components.
  • Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient transition through the continuum of care, patient and family education, patient self-management after discharge, and supporting factors that impact customer satisfaction.
  • Considers all characteristics of the individual, including age and life stages, state of health, race and culture, values, and previous experiences.
  • Administers medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines.
  • Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Core elements of performance include knowledge and active participation in unit/program level quality improvement processes and initiatives as well as customer service programs.
  • Monitor daily missed med reports and undocumented PRN effectiveness reports for assigned patients before transferring care to oncoming shift.
