Practical Nurse-Community Based Outpatient Clinic - Oklahoma
Assisting with and performing activities of daily living, i.e.,
bathing, feeding, shavings, oral hygiene, care of scalp and
Assisting patients with bedpans, urinals, or to the
Making unoccupied/occupied beds. Maintaining a neat, safe,
comfortable environment for the patient.
Assisting with the admission, transfer and discharge of
Preparing, administering, and reviewing appropriate dosage for
oral, subcutaneous, intradermal, intramuscular, topical, topical,
enemas and suppository forms of medications.
Taking and recording in the medical record: vital signs, blood
pressure, pulse, respiration, temperate, pain score, weight, and
Collecting specimens, urine, feces, sputum, etc., and appropriately
prepare and transports specimens to the laboratory. Measuring and
recording total intake (oral, IV, per tube) and-- output (urine,
emesis, wound, etc.).
Performs venipunctures and appropriately prepares and transports
specimens to the laboratory. Performs finger stick blood
Observing, reporting, and documenting all changes in the physical
condition and/or the behavior of patients to the supervising
Registered Nurses (RN) on duty. Reporting and recording care and
treatment including responses and reactions to that care and
treatment. In designated areas, able to interpret life threatening
dysrhythmia after demonstrating competency.
Responsible for placing large bone nasogastric tubes and foley
catheters. Performing ostomy care, tube feedings, nasopharyngeal or
tracheal suctioning, oxygen therapy, dressing changes, irrigations,
nebulizer treatments, various tube care, i.e. Jackson Pratt,
hemovac, tracheostomy, etc., and a variety of other procedures.
Providing age appropriate care.
Providing and/or reinforcing patient teaching and documents.
Identifying emergency situations and taking appropriate action,
i.e.. imitates CPR, pulls fire alarm, etc.
Monitoring patients receiving blood transfusion.
Managing the patient with a chest tube.
Assisting in maintaining a safe, therapeutic environment for
patients, including those exhibiting unpredictable behavior.
Providing appropriate care and documentation for patients (1) at
high risk for falls, (2) requiring restraints, (3) requiring
Emergency Orders of Detentions (EOD) or Court commitment, and (4)
demonstrating suicidal or ideations, or (5) patients requiring
special monitoring or observation.
Demonstrating a positive understanding and helpful attitude toward
patient, patient families and coworkers. Demonstrating the ability
to work as an active, contributing team member.
Demonstrating courteous interactions with patients, patient's
families and coworkers.
Utilizing principles of aseptic technique, universal precautions
and isolations requirements.
Providing input into patient into patient plan of care.
Utilizing computer programs required for the position.
Knowledge Required by the Position
Knowledge and skills sufficient to provide nursing care to a
variety of patients ranging from chronically to acutely ill.
Knowledge and skill sufficient to use medical terminology and to
begin interpreting test results and information gathered to care
Beginning skill in observing, gathering and reporting both orally
and in writing obvious physical and emotional changes in the
patient's health care status.
Knowledge and skill sufficient to interact with patients/patient
families for the purpose of obtaining or giving information.
Knowledge and skill sufficient to perform procedures, treatments
and care with supervision and/or assistance -as needed.
Knowledge of anatomy and physiology as well as understanding of the
scientific principles underlying the nursing care and/or procedures
to be performed.
Knowledge and skill sufficient to initiate emergency measures and
to get further assistance.
Knowledge and skill sufficient to provide environmental safety,
security and privacy of patient.
Knowledge of dosages and skill sufficient to administer prescribed
Practical and theoretical knowledge about drug side effects,
purposes, therapeutic dosage range and toxic effects.
Knowledge and skill to demonstrate computer literacy to use all
required programs for the position.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:30 to 4:00 or 8:00 to 4:30,
includes some Saturday depending on clinic needs.
