This position is in our Stephenson Cancer Center Infusion Clinic. POSITION INFORMATION: Coordinates and supervises the activities of Chemotherapy Nurses and other medical personnel. Performs chemotherapy administration in the capacity of a Registered Nurse. Provides physician assistance, a variety of information gathering, sample collection, patient education, patient followup and consultation as well as supply maintenance. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: Chemotherapy Administration & Consultation. Administers PO, SC injections, chemotherapy drugs, and other medications as ordered by physician or per protocol requiring accurate timing and documentation. Consults with other medical personnel to share and discuss the patient's condition and the recommended direction of treatment to ensure the highest quality of care. Provide information about chemotherapy and side effects to the patient, family, and/or caregivers. Provides a variety of assistance to physicians. Information Gathering & Sample Collection. Obtains patient histories. Takes and records various readings such as heart and respiratory rate, blood pressure, weight, body temperature, etc; collects samples from patients including blood, urine, etc. Obtains and reviews laboratory results. May review and grade laboratory results. May identify, grade, document, and report patient adverse events and serious adverse events. Consults with physician or nurse practitioner in identifying dose limiting toxicities. Patient Education. Discusses chemotherapyrelated or protocol specific information with the patient, family, and/or caregiver regarding treatment expectations. Answers inquiries and provides guidance as appropriate. Provides supportive resources to the patient, family and/or caregiver. Patient Follow Up. Ensures patient followups are scheduled for related treatment and coordination of care is handled in a timely manner. Records the patient's progress. Supply Maintenance. Ensures medical supplies are stocked and orders have been placed for chemotherapy administering supplies. Personnel Supervision. Coordinates and supervises the activities of Chemotherapy nursing services and other medical personnel. Hires, trains, conducts performance evaluations and handles disciplinary actions. Assists LPN's and MA's to ensure protocolrequired pharmacokinetic draws, electrocardiograms, vital signs, premeds, IV start and IV discontinuation are performed per protocol. As Needed. Performs various related duties to successfully fulfill the function of the job. Job Requirements Education: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing Experience: 48 months experience in the capacity of a Registered Nurse in a healthcarerelated environment Certifications/ Licenses: Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Oklahoma, BLS, and CPR certification. Oncology Nursing Society(ONS)/Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation(ONCC), Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certification. If working in Pediatric Oncology, must have an Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses (APHON) biotherapy certification. Equivalent/ Substitution: Will accept an Associate's Degree in Nursing and 72 months experience in the capacity of a Registered Nurse in a healthcare related environment, which 48 months of that experience in Oncology. Preferred: Oncology Certified Nurse or within 24 months of employment. If working in Pediatric Oncology, a Certified Pediatric Hematology Oncology Nurse (CPHON) certification or obtain within 24 months of employment in this position. Skills: Advanced knowledge of treatment alternatives, drug properties, and interactions. Complies with HIPAA regulations to safeguard the privacy and security of the patient's health information. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to listen and understand points being made and asking questions. Ability to guide patients in adjusting to the truth of the illness to reduce anxiety and improve coping skills. Ability to have patience and compassion when communicating with the patient, family members, and caregivers. Hiring contingent upon a Background Check?
