OU HSC is one of only four comprehensive academic health centers in the nation with seven professional colleges. We are currently building world-class institutes for the treatment of diabetes and cancer.
Duties:

  • Responsible for the centralized operational oversight and management of the Office of the Vice President (OVPR) for Research core facilities that support laboratory-based research for OUHSC investigators.
  • Oversees multiple research core functions with a focus on enhancing the effective and efficient utilization of core resources for all investigators
  • Manages core resources technical staff
  • Provides technical support to various research activities that utilize shared resources
  • Assists in the development and implementation of operational policies and procedures for core resources; establishes and maintains an inventory control system for supplies and equipment and ensures that work orders for core resource equipment maintenance are placed in a timely and efficient manner; assists research leadership in developing strategic and operating plans for the facility; manages technical staff
  • Works with the OVPR to maintain detailed records of core expenses and revenue; tracks core utilization and oversees the invoicing of investigators for core usage
  • Supports users of core resources with research design, methodology, and data interpretation; evaluates new scientific technologies and methodologies; works closely with the core director to optimize shared resource technologies and services in support of research
  • Serves a key role as the first point of contact for investigators interested in utilizing core resources; promotes collaborations among investigators interesting in similar scientific methodologies and technologies
  • Oversees planning and development of new projects, build-outs including program analysis and sources of potential sponsored funding; assists in planning and equipping of new shared resource facilities as well as associated project reporting
  • Plans, develops, and maintains training programs for share resource operation; trains investigators and laboratory staff in technical utilization of shared resources; plans and enforces a program of employee health and safety for laboratory environment
  • Performs related duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position Job Requirements
    Education: Master's degree in a basic science-related field (examples: biology, molecular biology, other biological sciences, chemistry, biochemistry, zoology, etc.)
    Experience: 60 months experience working in a basic-sciences research laboratory facility, 24 months of which are in a senior-level, supervisor, and/or leadership role in a basic sciences research laboratory facility; demonstrated experience with imaging, flow cytometry, and/or sequencing technologies.
    Equivalent/Substitution: Bachelor's degree plus eight years experience working in a basic-sciences research laboratory facility, 24 months of which are in a senior-level, supervisor, and/or leadership role in a basic sciences research laboratory facility will qualify an applicant.
    Skills:
    • Proficiency in the use of a wide variety of lab techniques, research equipment and research related software
    • Proficiency with Information Systems used within the department
    • Ability to handle confidential materials
    • Communication, technical, and organizational skills
    • Ability to handle and interpret data. Preferred: Leadership experience in a basic sciences research laboratory facility providing both operational management and development of the facility as well as contributing to and assisting with research and research-related activities.
