Registered Nurse-Nurse Manager Perioperative - Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

The Nurse Manager (NM) responsibilities include, yet are not limited to the following:

  • The NM ensures that subordinate personnel provide timely nursing care which complies with generally accepted standards of clinical
  • Ensures leadership, oversight of nursing practice and nursing operations. The NM facilitates an interdisciplinary approach to high quality, cost effective, and customer-focused health care.
  • Responsible for fostering Just Culture and modeling traits of being a Highly Reliable Organization.
  • Ensures a variety of communication tools and methods to disseminate information to their staff. They provide timely information regarding emergencies, unusual occurrences or issues that impact nursing practice or operations to the Associate Chief Nurse and/or
    the Associate Director of Patient Care Services.
  • Responsible for implementation of the Vision, Mission and Values of the Oklahoma City VA Health Care System within their defined areas of responsibility.
  • Engaged in administrative nursing practice characterized by both increased complexity of clinical decision making and enhanced skill in nursing management.
  • Provides leadership in day-to-day operations and input into the strategic planning process for the attainment of organizational goals.
  • Updates and informs staff of the Medical Center Administrative goals through facilitating both vertical and horizontal communication in a timely manner. The incumbent provides timely information regarding emergencies, unusual occurrences or issues that impact on nursing practice or operations to the Nurse Executive/Associate Director Patient Care Services. They will provide direct supervision of nursing personnel in their defined area of responsibility and evaluates their performance and competency.
  • The NM is knowledgeable concerning the disciplinary process and keeps his/her supervisor abreast of such actions.
  • Responsible for all issues that affect nursing including standards of practice, credentialing, training, functional statement, position descriptions, proficiency reports, performance appraisals, policies, procedures, protocols and competencies.
  • Ensures appropriate orientation, education and continuing professional development of nursing personnel supervised.
  • Assumes the responsibility for staffing and scheduling of permanent and supplemental nursing staff and ensures that assignments of the staff reflect their appropriate utilization, compliance with staffing guidelines, and The Joint Commission standards.
  • Fiscally responsible and participates with the planning and monitoring the budget for his/her area of responsibility. He/she allocates available resources to promote efficient, effective, and customer focused nursing care.
  • The NM serves as a role model and coaches and supports staff in critical thinking regarding professional nursing practice.
