www.veolianorthamerica.com. Job Description Position Purpose: This
is a field position with a focus on construction, maintenance and
repairs. This position also involves backhoe and heavy truck
operation. Primary Duties/Responsibilities: This position requires
planning and leadership skills to complete all situations
encountered in utility operations. The individual reports to the
superintendent who assigns the work to be done. The Utility Tech is
given many tasks that usually require building or maintenance
activities. This person must be good using tools. In addition to
operating equipment it is desired that the person be knowledgeable
in the maintenance and repair of the equipment he/she uses. The
Utility Tech is often assigned to inspect new water main
installations, which means he/she must be familiar with all
standards of construction. The Utility Tech must be familiar with
all aspects of OSHA safety regulations and must work in a manner
approved by OSHA at all times. The safety of the job site is
directly under the oversight of the Utility Tech. The current
incumbent is a skilled welder, which is an asset to UWCT but not a
requirement of the position. The Utility Tech must perform many
tasks that require lifting and prolonged physical exertion. The
person should be capable of lifting at least 75 pounds to their
waist. The current Utility Tech is also a skilled plumber. Some
knowledge of plumbing is a plus for future incumbents. Planning and
organizing so as to perform construction and repair activities
w/out supervision. Leadership skills to direct subordinates.
Qualifications Education/Experience/Background: High School
Diploma/GED is required. Experience in operating backhoes and heavy
trucks. Previous plumbing or water utility experience is a plus.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Backhoe operation. Required
Certification/Licenses/Training: Must posses a commercial driver’s
license (CDL). Must obtain Competent Person training and
certification. Must obtain a Class II Transmission & Distribution
Operator certificate. Must obtain a Cross Connection Inspector
certificate (Optional). Additional Information Benefits: Veolia’s
