OU HSC is one of only four comprehensive academic health centers in the nation with seven professional colleges. We are currently building world-class institutes for the treatment of diabetes and cancer. This position w orks with researchers to evaluate inventions for Intellectual Property protection and commercial potential.

Duties:

  • Identify, evaluate, and license intellectual property from the University
  • Prepare technical information for marketing purposes; draft and negotiate license agreements
  • Works with researchers to evaluate inventions for Intellectual Property protection and commercial potential.
  • Reviews, analyzes, and evaluates new disclosures for technical development, patentability, commercial potential, and practical utilities
  • Recommends strategy for statutory protection and best path to market
  • Recommends when research, discoveries, and/or technologies should be protected, marketed, and/or developed into a commercial product
  • Discusses with internal and external entities to ensure proper protection of the intellectual property
  • Conducts searches of prior patents to determine if the invention is patentable
  • Oversees market research, projection, and valuation of technologies
  • Develops and recommends commercialization strategies for academic inventions
  • Performs market and technical evaluations to determine product-market fit and licensing strategies
  • Identifies potential licensing partners
  • Contacts potential licensees and commercial partners to explore utilities and value of new innovations to entice commercial collaboration
  • Negotiates reasonable terms and conditions for licensing rights to use technologies with potential licensees and other private sector parties interested in commercializing the technology
  • Monitors, evaluates, and recommends IP prosecution strategies for the protection of inventions
  • Manages relationships with related researchers and inventors
  • Discusses if an invention is patentable, market and technical evaluations, and any infringements on the patent
  • Establish and maintain business relationships with inventors and commercial partners
  • Performs other duties as needed to successfully fulfill the functions of the position
    This position may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule after successful completion of training and satisfactory job performance.

    Job Requirements

    Education: Master's Degree in a Biological Science, Chemistry, or closely related field

    Experience: 24 months of relevant experience in industry, developing, commercializing or bringing new technologies to market, including, but not limited to, experience in technology transfer or technology development.

    Skills:
    • Strong scientific background, interpersonal, and management skills
    • Excellent communication skills and technical writing skills
    • Excellent critical thinking and organization skills
    • Ability to multi-task, work independently, and as a team member
    • Strong management skills
      Preferred:
      • Prefer Ph.D. in a Biological Science, Chemistry, or closely related field.
      • Knowledge of current intellectual property best practices
      • Knowledge of licensing, patenting, and Business Model Canvas and Lean Launch
      • Knowledge of FDA drug approval process
      • Knowledge of the clinical trials process
      • Ability to draft and interpret legal language in contracts and other documents
        Working Conditions:
        • Must be able to work in a sitting position
        • Ability to engage in repetitive motion
        • Standard office work environment
